What's your favorite free/found item?
A few of my antique books passed down to me from my grandmother.
What's your favorite purchased item?
This seems to change VERY often... but currently it is a set of white vases, shaped like knotty trees. Purchased on sale from pier 1 imports.

What has been your biggest obstacle in decorating/design?
Trying to do it all on a strict budget! I like to change things a little too often, so I have a hard time justifying spending a great deal on a certain item. Our home was built in 1892, so it has also been a challenge dealing with the mortar walls. It is so hard to arrange how to hang things when I am limited to where the studs in the walls are.

Is your design style organic or planned?
I think its a little planned. I love to sketch rooms out, and then try to decorate it as close to that as possible. Leaving a little room for change...

What is your favorite spot in the house?
I love the little makeshift entry we have created. Our house was lacking one, so we picked up some shoe cabinets from ikea, and mounted them to the wall behind the front door. The addition of a bench also helped tie the whole thing together. We turned the couch as to create somewhat of a hallway.... I like pretending I have an entry. :) We have tile already purchased, and this will definitely finish the space off.
How has your style changed in the past 5 years?
Well, 5 years ago I was still living at home and was not spending any money on decorating! 4 years ago, when we first got married, I couldnt afford to spend money decorating. So, I tried to be creative and do things cheaply. I took a bunch of my own photographs for the house, and collected antiques. Now, I feel I can finally embrace the style I have longed for. So, I feel it has definitely changed but for the better!

What is your favorite resource or store?
This really is a toss up between two stores. I love ikea to pieces but, my nearest ikea is 3 hours away. So, I have only been able to shop there twice. We have a pier 1 imports about a half hour from my house, and I am in there often enough, I think its safe to call that my favorite store. I have had really good luck finding some great deals on cleareance, and it seems they are always updating their inventory.
What is your biggest decorating/design pet peeve?
Hmm... I am not sure if I have one. If I do, its not coming to me at the moment. I really dislike oak stained furniture. We have a set of end tables that had been given to us when we first got married. While I was grateful for them, I was definitely ready for them to go, and It was like pulling teeth trying to get him to part with those things.

What has been your favorite design trend?
I am really really in love with the new natured themed trend. Birds, owl etc. I have a weak spot for ceramic pieces coated with a white glossy glaze. :)

What is the biggest influence on your design/decorating style?
My husband. For a guy, he really has a strong opinion on "decorating." Its been an uphill battle, but we are finally starting to come to common grounds on certain styles. For example, I have always loved white painted furniture, while he appreciates the grain and stain of real wood. We have since compromised on espresso stained furniture. :)

What in your home dictates how you design/decorate?
The year of our home, has really dictated certain styles I felt I could "get away" with. I love its character and charm, but it certainly poses challenges.
What is the simplest thing you have done that has made the biggest impact?
Definitely the painting. When we first bought the home almost 2 years ago, it had been a repossesed home. It was in awful shape, holes in the walls, no carpet, missing doors. We had less then a month to get it move in ready. It was a ton of work all at once, but painting really made the biggest difference.
