House Tour

Name: Constança
Location: Lisboa, Portugal
Square Footage: 70 square metres
Years Lived in: One
Rent or own: Own
Describe your style: Sleek cottage (I just made that up… does it make any sense?)

What's your favorite free/found item?
The armchair in the living room. My parents bought it when they got married; it used to be a leather armchair. When my mum gave it to us we had it upholstered in this English fabric I bought in Madrid for €5 a metre!

What's your favorite purchased item?
Our IKEA four poster bed. We bought it yellow and painted it white.

What has been your biggest obstacle in decorating/design?
I wish I had more space… an extra room would be nice.

Is your design style organic or planned?
Well, it started out with a planned trip to IKEA to buy all the basics in white. After that, it has evolved organically.

What is your favorite spot in the house?
My sewing corner.

How has your style changed in the past 5 years?
My taste has changed a great deal: now it’s more monochromatic and sleek. As for my style, I can’t really tell because this is my first home!

What is your favorite resource or store?
IKEA and Belgian flea markets.

What is your biggest decorating/design pet peeve?
Just as I can’t relate to skinny models in fashion magazines, I am sick of interiors featured in the majority of interior décor magazines. I much rather look at real people’s houses on Flickr!

What has been your favorite design trend?
All-white with dashes of colour.

What is the biggest influence on your design/decorating style?
The internet: Flickr and design blogs.

What in your home dictates how you design/decorate?
The lack of space does!

What is the simplest thing you have done that has made the biggest impact?
The kitchen floor tiles: they were the cheapest tiles in the shop and they make it look like a French country kitchen.

You have such a beautiful home....I loved the clean lines and cheerful touches. The kitchen tiles are awesome. I agree, about decor mags being so unreal and stilted...I love seeing real people's homes on flickr too.
